Markus har redan skrivit positivt, som oftast med tydlig ironi, i Allmänmedicin Norrbotten om boken. Hans fru Karin har tidigare disputerat på en avhandling om bl a om begreppet ”plats”. Den avhandlingen har vi tidigare presenterat.

Jag hade också glädje av läsningen. Särskilt fäste jag mig vid några funderingar om relationen mellan huvudpersonen, en ung läkare, och hans överårige kollega. I slutet drabbas den erfarne av en allvarlig dödlig stroke och går in i ett komatöst tillstånd. Här kommer ett vackert citat:

”For the fist time Orville understood the force of isolation. Even in the face of cancer or coma. Understood, too, that the moments of healing had been when he, often inadvertenly, had been present with peolple. Bill had shown him that, that this is what good doctors do. We´re present at the crucial moments, and at the ordinary moments. We bring someone who is out on the edge of the so-called sick into the current of the human. We take what seems foreign in a person, and see it as native. This is healing. This is what good doctors do. Isolation is deadly. Connection heals. Even in dying. What Orville then understood was that if he were to stay in this room with this dear old doctor, he had to be with him.” (s 294)
